A Birmingham lap dancing club has been given permission to remain open until 6am six days a week sparking fears of a creeping spread of the city's infamous entertainment zone into the leafy suburbs. After securing the extension to the opening hours of its Hagley Road club, Spearmint Rhino is now likely to seek a similar extension to its " Extreme" city centre club on John Bright Street. The clubs operate from 10am until 4am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday but Hagley Road was granted a two-hour extension by the Birmingham Licensing Committee with a seven to one vote, yesterday. The application was opposed by city councillor Deirdre Alden, although she was unable to attend the meeting for personal reasons. Coun Alden Con Edgbaston is concerned that by granting Spearmint Rhino extended opening hours the council could encourage the growth of night clubs and bars along Hagley Road, effectively extending the Broad Street entertainment zone towards the Ivybush centre. Coun Alden told The Birmingham Post: "I am quite sure the girls do not want to be working until 6am six days a week.
